National Apple Day

National Apple Day; a time to “mull” the many health benefits of this favorite fall fruit.  

You’ve probably heard that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” They can certainly help!  

Apples are an incredibly nutritious fruit that offer many health benefits. Due to their rich fiber and antioxidant content, apples can not only lower your cholesterol and high blood pressure, but also reduce your risk for Type 2 diabetes and strengthen your immune system. (Just be sure to eat the peels — that’s where most of the fiber tends to be.)  

“In-cider” info: The average American eats about 26 pounds of apples every year. It’s no wonder — their high fiber content makes us feel full longer, making them an “apple-solutely” satisfying snack. 

Today is Constitution Day

The Constitution honors the document that guarantees Americans their essential rights. Since its ratification in 1787, the Constitution of the United States has served as the basis for all U.S. laws.

To prevent the abuses of power they felt subjected to under the British monarchy, the Founding Fathers framed the Constitution carefully, distributing power between three branches of government. The Constitution outlines the government’s powers, the limitations on those powers, and the rights of citizens. It also outlines an amendment process for making changes in the futur

This Day in History . . . September 3rd

Did you know yesterday, September 3rd in 1777, an American flag flew in battle for the very first time?

This occurred during a Revolutionary War skirmish at Cooch’s Bridge, Delaware. Gen. William Maxwell, commanding a Patriot force of infantry and cavalry, ordered the new flag raised in a clash with an advance guard of British and Hessian troops.
